It's amazing the fun your family could have with a week spent in the Dolomites: biking on old railway paths, getting a mountain goat's perspective on chairlifts and gondola rides, exploring World War I sites, eating at a traditional hiker's hut, rock-climbing lessons, plus pizza for the kids and wine for the adults!

Day 1: Follow a mostly car-free route perfect for kids, mountain biking through larch and fir forests, along the curves of an old railway path, to Cortina d'Ampezzo, a posh town surrounded by stunning peaks and filled with shops and cafés.

Day 2 : Ride a chairlift to Rifugio Scoiattoli for dramatic views of the Cinque Torri, a group of iconic stone pinnacles. Want to dig into the past? The guided walk reveals World War I bunkers and trenches, and an open-air museum near Passo di Falzarego. Then, kids get the hang of rock climbing with an expert mountaineer!

Day 3 : Pedal through Val Badia's scenic Ladin villages, conifer forests and flower-carpeted fields, glaciers and lofty rock towers—talk about scenery! Adults enjoy an exclusive gourmet meal in the hotel's magnificent wine cellar while kids explore an exhilarating ropes course in Colfosco before a fun-filled pizza dinner.

Day 4 : Explore verdant valleys and majestic mountains, arriving on the pristine Alpe di Siusi plateau by gondola. Alpine gentians and poppies color your bike route before you stop to sample grilled Taleggio cheese, sausage with mushrooms and polenta, and other local specialties.

Days 5-6 : The choice is yours! Hike through fields of delphinium and foxglove to a rifugio where ancient folk traditions thrive. Discover beautiful Fiè allo Sciliar with its onion-shaped church steeple. Take a refreshing swim in Völser Weiher, a beautiful man-made lake surrounded by alpine peaks or relax poolside at the charming mountain lodge.
